Main Street Yoga Brings “Namaste” to Speedway

Downtown Speedway, Indiana has been undergoing a renewal of sorts over the past several years. So it makes perfect sense that a relative newcomer to the downtown district is Main Street Yoga (MSY), a place for people to stop in and renew their bodies and minds, even if for just a small part of their day.

Mindi Epstein, Owner, Main Street YogaWhen owner Mindi Epstein (pictured at right) opened MSY last summer, she intended for the yoga studio to be a neighborhood beacon, a place where the roar of the engines that Speedway is so famous for would be drowned out by the tranquility offered within the studio.

“Main Street Yoga is unique in intentionally being very neutral so that everyone will feel comfortable,” Epstein said. “The studio feels more like a refuge than a New Age place. My goal was to create a place that removed some of the intimidation people sometimes feel about yoga studios. I think we are succeeding in making yoga accessible to a broader population so more people can experience the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of practicing yoga.”

If you are new to yoga, the studio offers a beginner’s class on Tuesday nights at 6pm and Thursday nights at 7:30pm. Newbies might also consider the Gentle Yoga class as a good beginning. MSY also offers classes in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. Those who prefer a little more lively practice of yoga should consider the Juicy Flow class that incorporates some dance and sound.  There is even a Shift Change Stress Relief yoga class on Thursdays at 3:30pm. You can see descriptions for all of the classes here.
