Day Trips from Speedway – Just a Tank Away
Within a radius of about twenty miles from Speedway, Indiana are several Indianapolis suburbs worthy of day trips from Speedway. If you drive a total of an hour or less round trip, you’ll find some wonderful ways to spend a day outside of Speedway in towns like Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, Noblesville and Avon.
All these Central Indiana destinations are good bets for a getaway, but if you’re willing to drive a couple of hours round trip, you can visit places like Muncie and Lafayette, just a bit farther down the road.

Things to do in Avon, Indiana – How about a late-June visit to the Hendricks County Rib Fest? With fireworks at dark, games and lots of activities, this greater Indianapolis festival is fast becoming quite a draw to Avon. While in town, investigate the legendary Haunted Bridge of Avon. |

Things to do in Carmel, Indiana – Have you seen the way the new Carmel Arts & Design District is shaping up? If not, you might want to check it out. Of note is the Museum of Miniature Houses and the historic Old Town Antique Mall in beautiful downtown Carmel. This last is a fascinating place to explore where you can easily get lost for a day. Carmel is less than twenty miles from Speedway, as the crow flies. |

Things to do in Fishers, Indiana – Conner Prairie is the famous living museum in Fishers that you will want to visit again and again. This fabulous greater Indianapolis museum is a small town in itself, depicting pioneer life on the prairie down to the smallest detail, including the staff’s costumes. |

Lafayette, Indiana – This city puts on some great festivals, such as the LayFlats Festival in August and the Taste of Tippecanoe festival in June. There’s also the Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette, a city of about 60,000 approximately one hour from your Speedway home. |

Muncie, Indiana – Here’s a good-sized, bustling city in the Heartland that offers a fun children’s museum, among other attractions. Try the “Dino Dig” associated with the Muncie Children’s Museum, for some unique and educational family fun. Your Speedway kids will have to be pried away from the Tree Slide and the Ant Wall. Driving to Muncie will take you a little over one hour, one way. |

Things to do in Noblesville, Indiana – There’s a lot to see in the charming town of Noblesville. Tops on the list are the Indiana Transportation Museum and the great green area that surrounds it called Forest Park, one of the best city parks in the entire United States and a great place for a picnic. |

Things to do in Zionsville, Indiana – Just up the I-465, less than ten miles from Speedway, is the upscale community of Zionsville. There’s so much to do in Zionsville, you might want to stay overnight. Check out the Zion Nature Center, the Zionsville Golf Course, Carter’s Antique Toy Museum, the Sullivan Munce Museum and Cultural Center and the Zionsville Performing Arts Center. |
